About the disease & condition

Bronchiolitis is a viral infection of the small airways (bronchioles) in the lungs, most commonly affecting infants. It is usually caused by the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and can lead to breathing difficulties. Early recognition and supportive care help prevent complications.

Known symtoms

Persistent cough and wheezing
Rapid or difficult breathing
Feeding difficulties or poor appetite
Mild fever in some cases
Nasal congestion or runny nose

Known causes

Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection
Exposure to cold environments or sick contacts
Weak or immature immune system in infants

Care

Physical examination by a pediatrician
Oxygen level monitoring to assess breathing
Chest X-ray in severe or uncertain cases
Supportive care including hydration and humidified air
Avoidance of exposure to sick contacts
Good hand hygiene to prevent infection spread
