Vitiligo
About the disease & condition

Known symtoms

- Gradual spread or enlargement of patches over time
- Sometimes associated with loss of pigment in hair or eyes
Known causes
- Autoimmune destruction of pigment-producing cells (melanocytes)
- Genetic predisposition
- Occasionally triggered by stress, skin injury, or certain illnesses
Care
- Clinical examination by a dermatologist
- Wood’s lamp examination to detect subtle or early patches
- Sun protection to prevent sunburn and reduce contrast
- Topical treatments such as corticosteroids or calcineurin inhibitors
