Chicken pox, also known as varicella, is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV). It primarily affects children but can occur at any age and may be more severe in adults. The illness is characterized by fever and an itchy skin rash that progresses through different stages before crusting over. Early diagnosis and appropriate care help reduce discomfort and prevent complications.
