About the Procedure
Eligibility
- Patients with blood in urine, recurrent urinary infections, or unexplained urinary symptoms.
- Suspected bladder, kidney, or urinary tract cancers.
- Monitoring chronic kidney disease or diabetes.
- Individuals with urinary tract obstruction or stones.
- Routine evaluation in high-risk patients or follow-up after treatment.
Care Before the Tests
- Collect a midstream urine sample in a clean container.
- Follow any specific instructions from your doctor regarding diet or medications.
- Avoid contamination by cleaning the genital area before collection.
- No fasting is usually required.
Care During the Tests
- Urine is analyzed chemically, physically, and microscopically (urinalysis).
- For cytology, cells are examined under a microscope for abnormalities.
- Tests are quick, painless, and non-invasive.
Care After the Tests
- Resume normal activities immediately.
- Results are reviewed by your doctor to guide treatment or further testing.
- Follow-up may be required if abnormalities or infections are detected.
