About the Procedure
Exchange transfusion is an advanced procedure used to treat severe neonatal jaundice or certain blood disorders. It involves gradually removing small amounts of the baby’s blood and replacing it with donor blood to rapidly reduce high bilirubin levels or correct blood incompatibilities. This carefully monitored procedure helps prevent complications such as brain injury and ensures stabilization of the newborn’s condition. It is performed in the NICU under strict medical supervision.
