About the disease & condition

Uveitis is inflammation of the uveal tract, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. It may be associated with systemic autoimmune conditions or infections. Causes include autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, infections such as tuberculosis, herpes, or syphilis, trauma, or idiopathic origins. Symptoms include eye pain, redness, photophobia, blurred vision, and floaters. Diagnosis involves slit-lamp examination, blood tests, and imaging for underlying causes. Early treatment and regular ophthalmic follow-up prevent complications like glaucoma, cataract, retinal damage, and vision loss.

Know symptoms

Eye pain, redness, and sensitivity to light.
Blurred or decreased vision and floaters.
Photophobia during exposure to bright light.
Tearing or discomfort in the affected eye.

Know causes

Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.
Infectious causes like tuberculosis, herpes, or syphilis.
Eye trauma or previous ocular injury.
Idiopathic inflammation without a clearly identifiable cause.

Care

Early treatment with corticosteroid or immunosuppressive therapy.
Regular follow-up visits with an ophthalmologist for monitoring.
Control underlying systemic disease activity to prevent recurrence.
Avoid rubbing eyes and promptly report vision changes.
